Legendary Lines Up Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Comics For TV

Comic writers Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick are bringing their creator-owned books to TV. Deadline reports that the husband-and-wife duo recently inked a two-year, overall deal with Legendary Television. The report didn’t specify which adaptations are currently in development. However, the studio has plenty of award-winning titles to choose from.

Under their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds banner, Fraction and DeConnick have published a number of acclaimed original series. One of the imprint’s most popular books is Fraction’s Sex Criminals, which he co-created with Chip Zdarsky. It follows a couple who discover that their sexual encounters can freeze time. Sex Criminals won the Eisner Award for Best New Series in 2014. A year earlier, Time Magazine hailed it as the best comic of 2013.

DeConnick’s Bitch Planet comic is one of her most popular series. It presents a feminist tale of rebellion that derives influence from sci-fi exploitation films of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Outside of their creator-owned efforts, Fraction and DeConnick have also garnered praise for their work with Marvel Comics. DeConnick is primarily known for relaunching Captain Marvel. In fact, her take on Carol Danvers actually inspired Marvel Studios’ interpretation of the character in the upcoming film. Meanwhile, Fraction had memorable runs on Hawkeye, The Invincible Iron Man, and Uncanny X-Men. The spouses’ company previously signed a similar deal with Universal to adapt their work in 2015. However, it seems that agreement has expired.

“From their brilliantly realized reinventions of established comic book canon to the most unique of original creations, Kelly Sue and Matt are the top of their field,” said Nick Pepper, president of Legendary Television studios. DeConnick and Fraction added a statement of their own. “It is an honor to partner with the Milkfed Criminal Masterminds to bring their work to a wider global audience. We are thrilled to have a new home for Milkfed with our friends at Legendary who have assured us we can crash on their couches for as long as we want, which is really cool.”
