SyFy has dropped a new trailer for Deadly Class, delivering even more 1980s nostalgia than the last round of footage that premiered during New York Comic-Con. It’s clear from the opening scene that the series draws influence from the work of John Hughes. It’s like The Breakfast Club, if Emilio Estevez and Molly Ringwald turned out to be trained killers.
Deadly Class is based on Rick Remender and Wes Craig’s Image comic book series of the same name. It tells the story of Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth), a homeless orphan who is recruited to join Kings Dominion Atelier for the Deadly Arts. It’s a school for assassins run by Master Lin (Benedict Wong). The new trailer gives us further insight into the various cliques that make up the school. This includes the Dixie Mob, led by Brandy (Siobhan Williams), as well as the Kuroki Syndicate, led by the katana-wielding Saya (Lana Condor). The trailer also introduces Marcus’ budding relationship with Maria (María Gabriela de Faría), a young woman who frequently appears in sugar skull makeup. Unfortunately, Maria’s boyfriend, Chico (Michel Duval), is the homicidal leader of the Soto Vatos.

Chico’s brutal showdown with Marcus is among the handful of scenes from the comics that are glimpsed in the trailer. There are also two scenes with Marcus and Willie (Luke Tennie) that appear to tease their first AP Black Arts assignment. Other recognizable characters include Billy (Liam James), Lex (Jack Gillett), and Petra (Taylor Hickson). The network has yet to show any footage of Tom Stevens as Chester Wilson. Chester is Marcus’ bestiality-inclined roommate from their time at Sunset Boys Home. Since SyFy is a basic cable channel, it’s unlikely that the producers will have him adopt his infamous “F***face” moniker.
Deadly Class premieres on January 16. You can check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think in the comment section!
