Christopher Meloni Will Voice Commissioner Gordon in Harley Quinn Animated Series

Last week, Batman: The Brave and the Bold star Diedrich Bader revealed that he is reprising his role as Batman in the upcoming Harley Quinn animated series. While speaking with Discussing Film, Bader mentioned that Alan Tudyk will be the latest actor to portray the Joker. Bader also broke the story about Harley Quinn‘s Commissioner Gordon. Law & Order veteran and Happy star Christopher Meloni has been cast as James Gordon, Batman’s staunch friend and ally.

“It’s going to be a rocking good time,” said Bader. “What’s fun for me as Batman, is that I get to explore the relationship with Jim…played by Chris Meloni. They tend to bring he and I together for the sessions so that we can improvise. Chris Meloni is absolutely hilarious. He hasn’t done a lot of comedies, but man is he funny. He and I improvised a lot, and I don’t know how much they’re going to use any of that. Just wait until you see what he brings out. It’s truly hilarious. I don’t want to spoil it too much, because it’s definitely a different take than anyone has done in the history of Batman. Batman is fairly consistent throughout time, but his Jim is very different.”

“I love working with these new guys who are doing Harley Quinn,” added Bader. “It’s very funny. They respect Batman, which is really nice and something I was worried about. Sometimes, when people want to do a comedy, they go too far in one direction or another. But they have a great respect for Batman. I’m just delighted to be back.”

“It’s tonally very different,” continued Bader. “I guess the Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series is as close to the template as they’re talking about. It’s funny and it has a lot of dirty language in it. [laughs] I’m not going to be watching it with my kids at this juncture, maybe in a couple of years when they’re a little bit older. It’s definitely an Adult Swim-esque take on it, so it’s darker but very funny…It’s bringing an adult sense of humor to what would normally be considered a kids medium…[Harley Quinn is] definitely going to be worth a watch.”

Harley Quinn will debut on DC Universe in 2019.
