“Honestly, I’m just sort of grappling with that right now,” Zimmer said in an interview with Vulture. “Quite seriously, the thought right now is that no, I don’t want to go and take what I did with Chris and just plonk it into another movie. There isn’t one good reason to do it, and there are so many good reasons not to do it.”
Zimmer also seems to be burned out on doing sequels, admitting: “I didn’t really enjoy myself much on Pirates 4.” But there’s still hope since he says he had a great time working on Man of Steel.
“I really enjoyed working with Zack Snyder, so part of it would be a personal decision. At the same time, I wouldn’t want to put the ideas I used in the Chris Nolan Batman movies into a Superman movie. It just wouldn’t feel right.”
The new film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with director Zack Snyder. Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the film along with Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will also reprise their roles in the sequel. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2015 and some scenes are even being filmed this weekend.
