The BBC is reporting that writer, director and producer Gerry Anderson passed away on December 26. He was 83.
Anderson is most well-known for his science fiction television shows such as Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, Joe 90, Space: 1999, and Thunderbirds.
Nick Williams, the head of the Anderson’s fanclub ‘Fandersons,’ said this: “To those who met him Gerry was a quiet, unassuming but determined man. His desire to make the best films he could drove him and his talented teams to innovate, take risks, and do everything necessary to produce quite inspirational works. Gerry’s legacy is that he inspired so many people and continues to bring so much joy to so many millions of people around the world.”
Anderson was diagnosed with mixed dementia two years ago and his condition was said to have worsened in the past six months. His son Jamie asks that donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Society via this link.
