Moon Knight star May Calamawy has expressed interest in playing Wonder Woman in the DCU.

Calamawy is known for playing Layla El-Faouly/Scarlet Scarab in Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight series, which premiered in March 2022. She also had an uncredited cameo appearance in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II and is currently filming Lee Cronin’s The Mummy movie, which will arrive in April 2026.

What did May Calamawy say about playing Wonder Woman?

At Comic-Con France, as captured in a video shared on X, Calamawy said, “If they want me to play Wonder Woman, I’ll play Wonder Woman.”

Calamawy further said that she hasn’t seen the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman movies (2017’s Wonder Woman and 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984), though she thinks she “saw a little from 1984.”

“I wouldn’t want to take anything from [Gadot’s] or, like, anyone else’s performance,” she said. “…I don’t even know, I haven’t really thought about what I would do as Wonder Woman.

The role of Wonder Woman has not yet been cast in the DCU. It’s unclear when the character will make her first official live-action appearance in Gunn and Safran’s shared universe; however, it is known that a Paradise Lost series is currently in the works. That show, which does not yet have a premiere date, will be a political drama and the power struggles of Themyscira. It will be set before the birth of Wonder Woman.

The DCU officially kicked off in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos movies. Gunn’s Superman movie starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan is scheduled to arrive in July 2025, before Peacemaker Season 2 then premieres in August. Following that, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released in theaters in 2026.

Marvel’s Moon Knight, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Disney+. It’s unclear whether or not it will get a second season.
