The Marvel Cinematic Universe may soon need only one superhero to protect them. A new promo for Marvel StudiosThunderbolts* has been released, claiming that Sentry will replace the Avengers as Earth’s Mightiest Hero.

Shared on the social media platform X, the 30-second promo features Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s stating that Sentry is “stronger than all of the Avengers rolled into one. And soon to be known as Earth’s Mightiest Hero.” Unfortunately, Lewis Pullman‘s Sentry isn’t sure why he would take orders from anyone. The rest of the footage shows Sentry’s attack on New York, which leads Sebastian Stan‘s Bucky Barnes to rally together the Thunderbolts to stop him.

Who is Sentry?

Created by writer Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee, Sentry first appeared in Marvel Comics’ The Sentry #1 in 2000. In the comics, the Sentry was a young man named Robert Reynolds who gained the “power of a thousand exploding suns” after ingesting an experimental serum that gave him Superman-like powers.

However, the serum also created The Void, an evil reflection of the Sentry that lurks inside Reynolds and manifests when Reynolds’ mental illness goes unchecked. Recent trailers for Thunderbolts*, including the promo above, have heavily teased that The Void will be unleashed across New York City in the movie.

Thunderbolts* is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, as the final movie in the MCU’s Phase 5.
