DC Studios hasn’t cast the DC Universe‘s Batman yet, but fan-favorite pick Alan Ritchson has just received some support from his Reacher Season 3 co-star Roberto Montesinos.
In a recent interview, Montesinos — who plays DEA agent Guillermo Villanueva opposite Ritchson’s Jack Reacher in the popular Prime Video action drama series — explained why Ritchson would be perfect for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in James Gunn’s DCU.
“What would he bring to that role? First of all, his work ethic, his research, his command of a character,” the actor told Screen Rant. “For example, in Lee Child’s books, when you’re reading the book? Reacher walks into a room, and there are three pages of thought; everything that he’s clocking. How do you do that without those words? He does it with his face, with his eyes. And he said to me once, ‘Every movement of your eye indicates to the audience a new thought.'”
Montesinos continued, “So, he would kill Batman. Why did Tom Cruise pick Reacher? Because he was so well-written and so complex in stillness. Batman’s the same kind of thing. He’s very stoic; he’s got a mask. I think he would be the best Batman we’ve ever had. We’ve had some good ones, but I think he would be the best Batman we’ve ever had.”
Does Alan Ritchson want to play the DCU’s Batman?
It isn’t just comic book fans who want to see Ritchson as the Dark Knight. The actor himself has publicly expressed interest in portraying arguably the most well-known superhero for Gunn’s DCU. In fact, Ritchson recently stated that DC Studios wouldn’t even have to pay him to take on the role.
“I get asked every day if I’m playing Batman. Yeah, would I play Batman? Yes. Would I pay handsomely to be Batman? You wouldn’t even have to pay me to be Batman. I would don the suit. ‘Gotham is mine.’ Look at that, I don’t even have to practice. It just comes out naturally,” the actor shared earlier this month.
While Batman technically made his DCU debut with a silent cameo in the adult animated series Creature Commandos, the character’s first major appearance is expected to be in the upcoming movie The Brave and the Bold. Andy Muschietti is currently attached to direct the DCU movie, which will pull inspiration from the comic book story arc, “Batman and Son.” The 2006 comics storyline focuses on Bruce Wayne learning that he has fathered a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul, the daughter of his nemesis, Ra’s al Ghul.
The Brave and the Bold does not yet have a release date.
