Elizabeth Olsen recently revealed that she won’t return as Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda, in Avengers: Doomsday. The movie, which is scheduled to be out in 2026, will feature numerous MCU stars teaming up against Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom. Joe and Anthony Russo are are directing the film.

Elizabeth Olsen says she’ll be in the US during Avengers: Doomsday’s filming

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Olsen stated that she will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday as Scarlet Witch. The actress was talking about her movie The Assessment when she was asked about the future of her MCU character.

The Marvel star was asked whether she would be staying in London to shoot for Avengers: Doomsday and its sequel Secret Wars, to which she responded, ”No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully].” She further added, “I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters].”

Olsen’s reply does ignite fans’ doubts regarding the future of Scarlet Witch, who was last seen in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While talking to The Playlist’s The Discourse podcast recently, Olsen shared her vision for Wanda in the future MCU.

She stated, “You know, when I think about my dream version, it’s like 50 years later, and I have white hair— such a big, massive white wig—and gnarly face of wrinkles. That’s how I imagine Wanda’s next journey.”

Although Olsen denies being in the next Avengers movie, rumors have been circulating suggesting that she will star in the film. As reported by SuperHeroHype before, in January, a listing on Production Weekly showcased Elizabeth Olsen’s name in the cast list of Avengers: Doomsday.

Moreover, Olsen has previously expressed her desire to return as Wanda in MCU. In November 2024, she attended the Vulture Festival and said, “It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well. … If there’s a good way to use her I’m always happy to come back” (via Deadline).
