While multiple theories continue to circulate about the potential plot of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, a new rumor has suggested that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki will be at the film’s center. The much-awaited sequel will reintroduce Robert Downey Jr. into the MCU, this time as the villainous Doctor Doom. However, little else has been confirmed by Marvel about the film’s cast.
Tom Hiddleston’s Loki could play a key role in Avengers: Doomsday
In a recent discussion, internet scooper Alex Perez noted that Avengers: Doomsday could showcase a battle between the titular superheroes and Victor Von Doom on the grounds of who finds Loki first.
Talking about the God of Mischief during The Cosmic Circus‘ March Discord Q&A, Perez stated, “He’ll be our MacGuffin. The race against Doomsday will be a race to see who gets to Loki first.” In general terms, MacGuffin refers to a plot device that plays an important part in furthering the narrative of a film or motivating its characters.
While Marvel has remained secretive about the wider casting of the film and its plot, a popular MCU theory indicates that Loki’s importance to the narrative in Avengers: Doomsday could mirror that of the Infinity Stones in Avengers 3 and 4. With Hiddleston’s character becoming the protector of the multiverse in Loki Season 2, many fans have suspected that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom may embark on a journey to uncover the whereabouts of Loki in a bid to take control of all reality. The Avengers would then have to locate Loki as well if they wish to stop Doctor Doom in his villainous quest.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently on track to hit theatres on May 1, 2026. Meanwhile, its direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is slated to come out on the big screen on May 7, 2027.
