The Russo brothers, who have returned to the MCU to helm Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, recently spoke about the future of AI or artificial intelligence in filmmaking. They called it a “valuable tool,” potentially hinting at its use in the upcoming MCU projects and more.

AI could be used as a ‘valuable tool’ in the Russos’ Avengers: Doomsday and more

Anthony and Joe Russo recently interacted with The Hollywood Reporter following the release of their latest Netflix feature, The Electric State. AI and its potential impact on filmmaking came up during the discussion. Anthony Russo said he thought AI could be a “valuable tool” before asserting that artists must be in control of the technology.

“We have to approach AI the same way we approach all technological innovations,” Anthony said. “It’s potentially a valuable tool, but it’s the kind of tool that artists always have to remain in control of, but there’s going to be some valuable role in the creative process and the filmmaking process.”

In another recent interview with The Times, Joe Russo confirmed that they used AI for voice modulation on The Electric State, adding it was “something any ten-year-old could do after watching a TikTok video.”

He further went on to say that the AI use had become quite common in Hollywood even though people didn’t readily speak about it. “There’s a lot of finger-pointing and hyperbole because people are afraid,” he elaborated. “They don’t understand. But ultimately you’ll see AI used more significantly.” According to Joe, AI is “best suited towards creativity” in its generative (via Vulture).

The brothers’ stance on AI is a potential indication of whether AI will be used in the MCU projects like Doomsday and Secret Wars. As things stand now, AI in filmmaking remains a controversial subject, and the Russo Brothers appear to be actively advocating for its use.
