Renowned composer Hans Zimmer recently shared why he has not composed a score for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Zimmer has earned many prestigious awards including five Grammys and two Oscars for his work on film scores. Some of his most popular scores include Gladiator, Interstellar, The Lion King, and more recently Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movie franchise, among many others. Zimmer has also worked on the scores for multiple superhero films in the past including The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, Wonder Woman 1984, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Hans Zimmer on why he never scored an MCU movie

Composer Hans Zimmer recently sat down for a virtual chat with Jost Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast. Zimmer shared his experience working on numerous movies and disclosed why he never worked on a Marvel Studios movie.

Horowitz brought up the topic of Zimmer’s work in superhero films and mentioned that he was surprised that Zimmer had never taken on an MCU project. In response, Zimmer revealed that Marvel Studios had come to him in the past but he never took on an MCU project because the “timing wasn’t great.”

He said, “Really, quite honestly, I’m looking for other things right now. Look, I’ve done the trifecta — I’ve done Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man, and Wonder Woman!” Zimmer joked with Horowitz further by suggesting that he didn’t have an interest in working on films for “some of the minor characters.”

Zimmer then backtracked on his joke a little by saying that he “probably” would work on a project like that and that what he said was “arrogant.” He further added that Kevin Feige once said something similar to him and asked him, “Hans, what are you complaining about?”

Hans Zimmer’s next upcoming film score will be for the 2025 movie F1 starring Brad Pitt.
