The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Julia Garner Talks Playing Silver Surfer

Julia Garner recently spoke about playing the role of female Silver Surfer Shalla-Bal in the upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Apart from Garner, who is known for her performance in the acclaimed Netflix series Ozark, the movie will star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Marvel Studios’ first family.

Julia Garner on joining Marvel’s ‘big universe’ in The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Julia Garner recently joined ComicBook.com to promote her upcoming horror movie, Wolf Man. During the conversation, Garner was asked how she felt about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

When asked what stood out to her as she prepared for the movie she replied, “I mean, just how big it is. It’s a big universe, and I feel so grateful I get to be a little part of it, to be honest.” Garner further talked about the other members of the cast and conveyed that the casting of The Fantastic Four: First Steps “is phenomenal,” further expressing her admiration for the cast.

She also praised the director of the movie, Matt Shakman, and called him “amazing” as she revealed she is excited about being a part of the still-growing MCU.

Julia Garner was cast in the role of the female Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps in April 2024, as per a report by Deadline. She will portray the character of Shalla-Bal, who debuted in Marvel Comics as the Empress of the planet named Zenn-la. Shalla-Bal is also the love interest of Silver Surfer Norrin Radd, who appeared in the 2007 movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. She was first introduced in the issue of The Silver Surfer #1 in August 1968. Furthermore, the creators of the character of Shalla-Bal are Stan Lee and John Buscema.
