Ant-Man Star Addresses Quantumania Absence, Wants Her MCU Character to Get Powers

Ant-Man star Judy Greer has opened up about her absence in the 2023 sequel Quantumania and what she would like to see happen to her character, Maggie Lang, in a future Marvel movie.

Greer portrayed Maggie Lang, the ex-wife of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man, in Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), which were both street-level superhero movies with lower stakes. However, when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania got upgraded to an Avengers-level movie, complete with supervillain Kang the Conqueror, several of Ant-Man’s human supporting characters were left behind.

In a recent interview with The Direct, Greer addressed her Quantumania absence, sharing that she didn’t “know why I wasn’t in Quantumania, by the way, but I went to the movie theater and saw it. I don’t know why they didn’t put me in it, but I really wanted to be in it. It’s so much fun.”

Who else didn’t return for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania?

Greer wasn’t the only Ant-Man alum to not appear in Quantumania. Michael Peña and Tip “T.I.” Harris also didn’t return as Luis and Dave, respectively, members of Scott Lang’s X-Con Security crew. The final member, David Dastmalchian’s Kurt, was also absent, although Dastmalchian appeared in Quantumania as the voice of Veb. Maggie’s second husband, Jim Paxton, played by Bobby Cannavale, also didn’t return, nor did Abby Ryder Fortson as her daughter, Cassie, due in part to the character being aged up in Avengers: Endgame. Kathryn Newton instead played Cassie in Quantumania.

If and when Marvel Studios decides to use Maggie Lang again, Greer expressed her hope for the character to finally receive superpowers. “I was begging [Ant-Man trilogy director] Peyton Reed for a superpower. I was like, ‘Please, please, can I, like, run into someone on the street and get a superpower? Please, please, please?'” she recalled. “And him and Paul [Rudd] would laugh at me, and then they never gave me one.”

The Ant-Man trilogy is available to stream on Disney+.
