Superman & Lois Season 4 Finale Debuts [Spoilers] but With a Twist

Superman & Lois Season 4’s finale brought the series to a close, but not without bringing Clark’s best non-human friend. This familiar Superman-related character finally made its Arrowverse debut. But, it was in a way that fans wouldn’t have expected.

Krypto appears in Superman & Lois Season 4 finale

Clark’s iconic dog Krypto makes a small cameo towards the end of Superman & Lois. The final moments of the series finale showed two major time jumps. The first one was set a year after Superman defeated both Doomsday and Lex Luthor when John Henry Irons married Lana Lang, and Clark finally gave his sons their super suits.

The second time jump was set 32 years later, with Clark narrating the final montage which showed what happened in the years that followed. Clark and Lois lived a happy life growing old together. Their sons got married and had kids of their own. But eventually, Lois’ cancer returned, leading to her tragic death.

In the following years, Clark found a new companion by adopting Krypto. Only this time, it wasn’t a Kryptonian super dog, but an Earth-based golden retriever with no powers. It accompanied Clark in his final days before his demise, bringing the story of Superman to a satisfying end.

Talking to Comicbook.com, showrunner Brent Fletcher explained the decision to add Krypto’s brief cameo. He said:

“We love Krypto. We had talked about the idea of Krypto a lot, but we were never going to have a superpower dog in the show. It just, it wouldn’t really work tonally with what we were doing. And so when we were building the end montage, it’s such a sad moment when Lois passes, and we’re trying to calibrate how everybody should feel.”

He continued:

“We wanted to have some joy afterward. Like, how do you bounce back from such a loss? Well, you find another avenue for joy and if a shaggy dog can’t bring you joy, we don’t know what else can. And we just wanted like, it’s his first dog. He’s like a seven-year-old again in that moment as an old man with that dog. To us, it made us feel happy. And so, it was less about Krypto being an iconic character and more about Krypto just being man’s best friend.”

Superman & Lois Season 4 finale is currently available to stream on The CW app.
