James Gunn Reveals Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s Cinematographer

The DCU seems to be moving forward in full flow, with James Gunn recently confirming the cinematographer for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The movie is set to be led by House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock, who will portray the titular superhero. Matthias Schoenaerts also stars in the film as the villainous Krem, which will come out in 2026. In a recent development, Gunn announced the addition of another member to the Supergirl team in the form of its director of photography.

James Gunn confirms Rob Hardy as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s cinematographer

The DC Studios CEO declared Rob Hardy as Supergirl’s cinematographer while answering fan questions on the internet.

James Gunn provided the aforementioned update during a candid discussion on Threads. In the said interaction, a DCU enthusiast questioned Gunn if the rumor indicating Hardy’s inclusion in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as its cinematographer was true. The former MCU mainstay validated the doubt on social media itself, stating, “It is, yes!”

Rob Hardy, a veteran of his field, already has several A-list projects under his belt. He has famously worked on high-profile movies such as Ex Machina, Annihilation, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Men, The Man from Toronto, and Civil War, among others. Additionally, the Supergirl cinematographer will be contributing to the behind-the-scenes process in the forthcoming TV series, Blade Runner 2099.

The second feature-length project in James Gunn’s revamped DCU, Supergirl is being helmed by Craig Gillespie. Written by Ana Nogueira, the film’s plotline draws inspiration from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Interestingly, Nogueira was also recruited to pen the Supergirl movie with Sasha Calle in the now-defunct DCEU.

Aside from the said updates, not much is known regarding Milly Alcock’s upcoming movie. At the time of writing, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is scheduled to hit the big screens on June 26, 2026.
