The Batman 2: James Gunn Confirms Movie Isn’t Canceled

James Gunn has addressed rumors about The Batman – Part 2 being canceled, denying the claims on social media. He clarified that the delays were due to the creative process, not any production issues. This response comes amid growing speculation surrounding the film’s status in the DC Universe.

James Gunn denies rumor stating The Batman Part 2 is canceled already

James Gunn addressed rumors on social media and denied claims that The Batman – Part 2 had been canceled.

The rumors gained traction after reports of Robert Pattinson meeting with Marvel’s Kevin Feige, sparking speculation about his departure from the Batman role. Pattinson’s recent signing for a new Christopher Nolan film, reportedly set to shoot next year, has fueled further doubts. This conflicts with the expected production start for The Batman – Part 2.

Responding directly to a post on Threads, Gunn stated, “Of course not. If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades?” He further emphasized his long-standing support for director Matt Reeves, saying, “I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes movies.” Gunn confirmed that DC Studios is “eagerly awaiting” Reeves’ script for the sequel, though he did not provide an exact timeline for its completion.

The rumors of cancellation stemmed from delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, which pushed The Batman – Part 2’s release to October 2026. The lack of updates on the script led some to speculate the sequel might be scrapped. However, Gunn quickly dismissed these rumors. He clarified that the delays are part of the normal creative process, not signs of production issues.

Although the timeline for The Batman – Part 2 remains unclear, Gunn’s statement reassures fans that the project is still on track. Reeves, known for his meticulous filmmaking, is continuing work on the script. The film shows no signs of being canceled.

The success of The Penguin series and the ongoing Reevesverse demonstrate DC Studios’ commitment to the franchise. The film, which has an October 2, 2026 release date, is part of Reeves’ continuing vision for the Batman universe.
