Superman Director James Gunn Confirms Movie Has Already Had a Screening

DCU’s Superman premieres in the US on July 11, 2025, and there is already huge buzz around the movie. Recently, James Gunn, the director of the movie and co-head of the DCU, confirmed that he hosted a special screening of Superman.

James Gunn hosted a special screening for Superman in LA

While responding to a fan on Threads, James Gunn revealed that he indeed hosted a special Superman screening in Los Angeles, California. The said fan tagged Gunn on a post about the screening and asked if it was a “fact.” The Guardians of the Galaxy director responded, “Yes that’s accurate.”

These reports originally began circulating after Gunn took to his Bluesky social media account and posted a photo of himself with his wife, actor Jennifer Holland, on a plane. “Back to Peacemaker (ATL) from Superman (LA),” he wrote in the caption. When a fan asked if the visit to Los Angeles was for post or pickups, Gunn replied, “Post. Screening.” Notably, the production for Peacemaker Season 2 is currently ongoing in Atlanta, Georgia.

Superman features an impressive cast comprising David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mister Terrific, among various others.

Gunn developed the movie from a script he wrote based on DC characters. The plot revolves around Clark Kent / Superman as he tries to find a balance between his upbringing on a farm in Kansas and his Kryptonian heritage.

Principal photography for the film started on Superman’s canonical birthday, February 29, 2024. Production lasted for five months before concluding in late July. Since then, the movie has been in post-production.

Earlier this month, Gunn revealed on Threads that the Superman trailer was on his hard drive, implying that it was ready. Add to this the fact that he has already hosted at least one special screening of the movie, and it’s safe to speculate that post-production for Superman is going smoothly.
