Jude Law recently shared his opinion on potentially reprising his role of Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel. The veteran actor made his much-awaited debut in the MCU in 2019, serving as the primary antagonist for the origin story of Brie Larson’s character. While the movie concluded with Yon-Rogg’s crushing defeat, his fate was left in the air. This was presumably to enable Jude Law to return to the MCU later. In a recent discussion, the actor addressed these possibilities, responding negatively, much to Marvel fans’ dismay.
Jude Law unsure of reprising his Captain Marvel role as it was ‘dry’
Jude Law revealed that he might not return to the MCU for future Captain Marvel projects. He then proceeded to list a hoard of problems with his character to clarify the reason behind his decision.
The Sherlock Holmes star shared his opinion on possibly returning as Yon-Rogg in an interview with the GQ Magazine. “Would I do another one? Probably not,” he conveyed. Law furthered his statement by explaining that his vision for the character differed significantly from that of the creative team of Captain Marvel.
“It was alright. [My character] was a bit dry. I wanted to be a bit funnier. I was hoping to be a bit more of a sort of mustache-twirling villain, and I think I kept coming up with ideas that were not going in this film. And so I just sort of did what I was told,” Law recalled.
In a previous interview, the Academy Award nominee even highlighted the issues he faced while enacting scenes in his specialized suit. Despite his reservations, Jude Law expressed that working in Captain Marvel “was a really good experience” for him. Interestingly, he came back to step in the shoes of Yon-Rogg for What If…? Season 2. The actor lent his voice to the Kree commander for the animated series.
