Following the success of The Penguin on Max, a new report suggests that Barry Keoghan will get his own Joker series set in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe. The villain had a brief scene in the first Batman movie but isn’t confirmed to have a major role in The Batman Part II. However, he could get his fair share of screen time and character development after the upcoming sequel.
Matt Reeves reportedly planning a Joker series with Barry Keoghan
The Batman Part II villain isn’t confirmed yet, but a new report suggests it won’t be Barry Keoghan’s Joker. Instead, the Crime Prince of Gotham will be built up as the main antagonist for the Robert Pattinson-led The Batman Part III.
As per Derek Faraci’s Marvelvision podcast, Keoghan will first star in a Joker series. The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell, acts as the bridge between The Batman and its sequel. Similarly, Keoghan’s Joker series is said to connect The Batman Part II and Part III.
While the report needs to be taken with a grain of salt, The InSneider and Slash Film have also corroborated the story. Furthermore, Reeves was recently confirmed to be developing more shows for The Batman Epic Crime Saga. So, it will make sense for one of those to be about Keoghan’s DC villain. That will allow the filmmaker to build up the character for The Batman Part III slowly.
But before that, Barry Keoghan could also have a small cameo in The Batman Part II to set up the aforementioned series. Albeit, when asked about appearing in the sequel, Barry Keoghan played coy and said, “I can’t say much. The camera is looking right at me. We’ll see where that goes. Again, it was an incredible experience…and yeah, I can’t say.” So, whether the actor returns in The Batman Part II remains to be seen.
Matt Reeves’ sequel is set to begin production in 2025 and will hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
