Superman & Lois Actor Is Open to Joining James Gunn’s DCU in New Role

With Superman & Lois ending after its fourth season, actor Alex Garfin is open to joining James Gunn’s DC Universe, but not as the Man of Steel’s son, Jordan Kent.

Since February 2021, Garfin has played Jordan Kent, the introspective son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane who is an outcast with social anxiety, in The CW‘s Superman & Lois. Unlike his brother, Jonathan (played initially by Jordan Elsass and currently by Michael Bishop), who did not develop superpowers until Season 4, Jordan has had powers since Season 1. Although playing the son of Superman has its perks, Garfin recently revealed that he would not want to reprise the role in the DCU if the opportunity came his way.

What sort of role does Alex Garfin want to play in the DCU?

Speaking with Screen Rant, Garfin explained that if “he got that call” to join the DCU, he’d “really want to play” a character that is “a little closer to myself. I got to play this very subdued, very complex [character,] which is beautiful, and I’m so grateful I got to play it, but I would love to do someone that’s a little more extroverted like myself and try to show off a bit of range here.”

He continued, “So that’s kind of what I’m going for now, is probably something more along the lines of actually something that James Gunn would write.” Garfin took this opportunity to also praise Gunn’s ability to make “a comic book look like a comic book,” listing off 2021’s The Suicide Squad and 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy as examples. “It has this fun to it. So if I got a call to try to do something similar and things were a little more James Gunn-y, I wouldn’t be opposed,” he concluded.

Superman & Lois is currently airing its fourth and final season on The CW. Besides Garfin and Bishop, the Arrowverse-adjacent series stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as its titular couple, Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane, respectively. Micahel Cudlitz also stars as Lex Luthor.

New episodes of Superman & Lois air on Mondays on The CW. The first three seasons can be streamed on Max.
