DC Studios co-CEO and director James Gunn has revealed that actor Benjamin Byron Davis is going to voice the infamous Batman villain, Rupert Thorne, in the upcoming DCU animated series Creature Commandos. Thorne is one of the most memorable adversaries of Batman who made his debut in 1977’s Detective Comics issue #469. In the comics, he was a corrupt politician. Additionally, Thorne also regulated criminal activities in Gotham, operating as the boss.
James Gunn confirms Benjamin Byron Davis as Batman villain Rupert Thorne
Benjamin Byron Davis is the voice behind the character of Rupert Thorne, whose glimpse was shown in the recently released trailer of the DCU’s Creature Commandos, James Gunn confirmed.
The update came through a screenshot that Davis shared on Instagram, in which Gunn addressed Davis as Rupert Thorne in a reply to his comment.
Showcasing his excitement to be a part of the new DCU, Davis wrote in the caption, “Well, the cat is out of the bag… Thrilled to be able to share I’ll be bringing Rupert Thorne to the DCU alongside the absolutely remarkable ensemble James Gunn has assembled for ‘Creature Commandos’!”
With Benjamin Byron Davis voicing the animated version of Thorne, there is speculation that he might also portray the character’s live-action version, if it happens. This would be similar to how Frank Grillo, who plays Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, will reprise his role in Peacemaker Season 2.
The trailer for Creature Commandos, written by Gunn, debuted at the NYCC 2024. Calling the series “horrible and tragic,” Gunn then shared the trailer on his Instagram account and wrote, “My pride in this project couldn’t be greater. A pleasure from start to finish with everyone involved.”
The series will be available to watch exclusively on Max on December 5, marking the official start of the new DCU’s first chapter, Gods and Monsters.
