Tom Holland Credits Robert Downey Jr. for Saving His Cut Spider-Man Scene

Tom Holland has disclosed how Robert Downey Jr. came to his rescue during his first scene as Spider-Man and helped retain his lines in Captain America: Civil War. The Uncharted actor was recently present in a podcast interview, where he also opened up about how he was already aware of Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback to the MCU as the villain, Doctor Doom.

Tom Holland was part of a conversation with podcast host Rich Roll. There, the actor disclosed several things related to his newly launched business and the MCU.

Holland talked about his thoughts on the Spider-Man 4 script and how it blew him away. Moreover, he revealed some behind-the-scenes information about his first appearance as Spider-Man in the MCU. In the YouTube video posted by Rich Roll, Holland recalled how his lines from Captain America: Civil War were cut.

The actor stated that although during the screen test, he had 8 pages of lines. However, when it came to filming the scene, the dialogues were reduced to just 2 pages. He said, “When I got to set after I got the gig, my scene had been cut down significantly from what I did in the audition. It was now maybe two pages.”

Tom Holland asserted that the directors of Captain America: Civil War decided to cut his lines due to the movie’s script already being big. However, he further revealed that Robert Downey Jr was the one who prevented his lines from being cut.

Holland added, “Downey piped up: ‘Where did all of the kid’s lines go?’ Downey was the one who said, ‘No, you’re going to want to spend time on this. Let’s shoot the whole thing from the audition. You can always cut it, but you’re going to want to have it.'”

Tom Holland made a spectacular entry into the MCU with Civil War in 2016 as Spider-Man. He later starred in three solo Spider-Man movies, which were also hugely success.
