James Gunn, the co-head of the DC Universe (DCU), has given a disappointing update on the current plans for comics set in the same fictional universe as the franchise. He also clarified that the earlier posts about the Vigilante and Eagly comic book project on his social media accounts were inaccurate.
James Gunn confirms there are no plans for comics set in DCU continuity
Gunn recently disclosed on Threads that there were currently no plans for comics taking place in the DCU continuity as a response to a fan’s question. The Superman (2025) director also revealed that the upcoming Vigilante and Eagly comic book project, Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature!, was not part of the DCU after that was “intimated” in updates posted on his social media pages.
“Yeah that was me, sorry,” Gunn wrote, answering a fan’s query about the update on the Vigilante and Eagly comic vanishing from their feed. “I deleted the post from Threads and changed the text in IG. Someone posted the announcement for me yesterday while I was doing press for [NYCC 2024] and it was intimated the books were in DCU continuity. They are amazing and fun books by wonderfully talented folks – but they’re not in DCU continuity. Sorry!” he added.
Notably, Tim Seeley and Mitch Gerads are in charge of the Vigilante section of the double feature, whereas the creative team of Rex Ogle and Matteo Lolli are handling the Eagly part of the project. Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature! will reportedly have five issues and debut in March 2025. As for the second season of Peacemaker, the show in which both these characters appear, it will come out sometime next year on Max.
Further, it was previously reported that Gunn was serving as a story consultant on the double feature. When a fan wondered whether that part was inaccurate as well, Gunn responded, “No I am a story consultant – I just can’t [promise] everything that happens is in strict DCU continuity.”
Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie is slated to release in U.S. theaters on July 11, 2025.
