The MCU’s Spider-Man Tom Holland has disclosed that Kevin Feige and other executives behind the franchise rejected one of his ideas for Spider-Man 4 because they were already exploring that in Captain America 4. Holland’s last MCU project was 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which he shared the screen with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the two actors who have also portrayed the Marvel superhero in the movies.
Tom Holland pitched a Spider-Man 4 idea that’s already being used in Captain America: Brave New World
Tom Holland headlined MCU’s Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and appeared in several other projects in the franchise. While speaking to Rich Roll on his podcast, Holland said that his re-entry into the MCU was the biggest of the “three or four things” he was juggling now. He spoke about how collaborative that effort was before revealing that one of his pitches couldn’t be used in Spider-Man 4 as it was already part of Captain America: Brave New World.
While describing his experiences with Marvel, Holland told Rich Roll, “I’ll come up with an idea, and they’ll say no you can’t do that because we’re doing that in the new Captain America movie,” He added, “It’s really cool to just see how they’ve got this vision for the future.”
All three of the MCU Spider-Man movies were major hits. Homecoming made over $880 million at the global box office against a $175 million production budget. Meanwhile, Far From Home earned $1.133 billion against a $160 million budget, and No Way Home garnered $1.92 billion on a $200 million budget, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing movie of all time.
In the same interview, Holland stated the script for the fourth movie “lit a fire” in him. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect,” he elaborated.
Marvel has yet to announce the Spider-Man 4 release date.
