After a hugely successful run in theaters, Deadpool & Wolverine has scored over $1.3 billion at the global box office and has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. However, the Marvel blockbuster came with an expensive price tag. In a recent discussion, Deadpool & Wolverine editors Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid revealed that producers spent a large sum in order to get the ideal design for Logan’s brown and tan suit in the movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine’s brown and tan Logan suit cost $100,000 to make
Zimmerman and Reid recently stated that the production for Deadpool & Wolverine spent $100,000 to get a comic-accurate reimagining of John Byrne’s iconic costume for Logan. Hugh Jackman wears the suit while portraying a Wolverine variant that appears with the Hulk.
The editing duo reflected on their creative process while filming Deadpool & Wolverine during an interview with ComicBookMovie.com. While talking about the different versions of Wolverine showcased in the movie, Reid and his partner highlighted the financial implications of such a large production. “There was also, and maybe no one really likes to hear this, time and budget issues you have to deal with as well,” Zimmerman disclosed. “Here’s a perfect example: the brown and tan, we spent around $100,000 building that suit.”
Deadpool & Wolverine showed fans a number of Wolverine variants besides the one with the brown and tan suit. Deadpool’s hunt to find a Logan variant who would aid his cause saw him interact with Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, and a variant played by Henry Cavill, among others.
According to Reid, this fan-favorite sequence was only made possible as they were “economically able to take some things out.” Aside from the cuts, Reid also highlighted the role of 2023’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in the movie’s development. “The film benefited from that break,” he said. “We luckily were able to problem solve things and come up with new things.”
Despite the extravagant cost of the brown and tan suit, Deadpool & Wolverine has become one of Marvel Studios’ most successful films ever. According to Box Office Mojo, the action-comedy film currently ranks 20th in the list of highest-grossing movies of all time.
