Venom 3 is all set to hit theaters on October 25. The movie is already hotly anticipated by fans as it has been announced to be Tom Hardy’s last as the character. However, the inclusion of Knull in Venom 3 has also generated a huge number of theories online. In a recent interview, director Kelly Marcel touched upon the importance of Knull in Venom: The Last Dance and how he fits into the sequel.
Venom 3’s Knull won’t be a ‘one and done’ villain
The director of Venom 3, Kelly Marcel, was recently part of an email interview with IGN. In this chat, Marcel who has also contributed to the first two movies of the Venom trilogy as a writer, was asked several questions about the upcoming movie.
During the conversation, Marcel was asked whether Knull is the main villain of Venom 3 or if Sony is just setting him up for future projects. Marcel replied, “We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen, but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull. The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done’.”
She further asserted that Venom 3 just lays the foundation of Knull in the universe adding, “This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story. Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership — but it’s their relationship that remains the heart of this story.”
Additionally, responding to a question about when Knull started to be factored into the overarching story of the films, Marcel mentioned that producers were always “aware” of Knull but wanted to establish the relationship between Eddie Brock and Venom before introducing him. She stated in her response, “This is just the beginning for Knull.”
