Superman & Lois’ Bitsie Tulloch Says Don’t Blame James Gunn For Cancellation

The surprising cancellation of The CW’s Superman & Lois was announced in February 2024, eight months prior to the release of Season 4. The decision left many fans baffled, as the show was constantly registering impressive viewership and reviews. As such, much blame was thrown at James Gunn and Peter Saffran, who have been reshuffling things at the DC Studios for some time. In a recent discussion, Superman & Lois star Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch has come out to Gunn’s defense on the matter.

Elizabeth Tulloch urges fans not to blame James Gunn for Superman & Lois’ cancellation

As per Bitsie Tulloch, the axing of the show took place majorly due to constant managerial shifts everywhere.

During her recent appearance on The Sackhoff Show, the actress opened up about her reactions to Superman & Lois’ cancellation. “We went into this thinking we were gonna go seven seasons. That’s what we were told, so it was shocking that everything happened,” the actress said.

Tulloch then proceeded to make a genuine plea to fans not to blame James Gunn for the show’s cancellation. “People keep putting the blame on Gunn and Safran, but the reality is The CW was sold to Nexstar, Warner Bros. had a new head in David Zaslav, and then also DC Comics had new heads.”

The controversy surrounding the Superman & Lois’ cancellation after Season 4 arose after the reason behind the decision was revealed by Brad Schwartz, The CW‘s President of Entertainment. Following the February announcement, Schwartz clarified that the series was cancelled due to James Gunn’s Superman. “They don’t want a competing Superman product in the marketplace,” he stated to TheWrap.

Despite having conflicting interests, Elizabeth Tulloch encouraged fans to believe in Gunn’s vision for the DCU. “If you’re a Superman fan, be stoked about the movie and trust in his vision,” she said. “Because everything I think Gunn has directed has been great, and I think it’s going to be great.”

Superman & Lois Season 4 premiered its first two episodes on October 7. The final installment of the show will be receiving its remaining episodes every Monday.
