The MCU seems to be heading back to its glory days, having put out an interesting slate of projects for the coming years. Fans have especially expressed their excitement for the forthcoming Avengers movies, which will establish Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the setup. The Iron Man actor is all set to make his MCU debut as Doctor Doom this time around. Due to the scale of the project, Marvel is doing everything in their power to keep details about Avengers 5 and 6 under wraps. However, a recent rumor has given some insight into the project, particularly regarding the relationship that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will have with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom rumored to share an interesting dynamic with Spider-Man
As per the rumor, RDJ’s Doctor Doom will share a much more impactful connection with Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers movies than Reed Richards.
The speculation was published by internet scooper MyTimeToShineHello on his X profile. He claimed that Doctor Doom will have several important scenes with Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards. However, fans can expect the villainous Doctor Doom to share a more significant dynamic with Spider-Man, according to the scooper.
Doctor Doom and Mr. Fantastic have been longtime adversaries in comic books. Multiple cinematic iterations have attempted to showcase their complicated bond on the big screen but with little success. On the other hand, Avengers 5 will also mark the much-awaited MCU reunion of Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland, who last shared screen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday will roar into the cinemas on May 1, 2026. Meanwhile, its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, is currently slated to hit the theatres on May 7, 2027. Marvel has recruited Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously helmed Avengers 3 and 4, to serve as directors in both projects.
