James Gunn Calls DCU’s Batman Casting Rumor ‘Bulls—’

While the revamped DC Universe has yet to release its first cinematic entry, it continues to expand its slate under the leadership of James Gunn. The visionary creative head has already laid the groundwork to introduce the Kryptonian superhero into the universe, with 2025’s Superman. However, little information has been shared regarding who would don the mantle of Batman in the rebooted DCU. While recent rumors seemed to divulge certain details about how the Caped Crusader’s casting could take place, James Gunn has come out to deny all claims made with respect to his universe’s Batman.

The Brave and the Bold’s Batman casting rumor debunked by James Gunn

Former MCU mainstay James Gunn took to social media to debunk a popular The Brave and the Bold’s Batman casting theory that is currently making rounds on the internet.

As per the rumors, originally initiated by scooper MyTimeToShineHello, James Gunn was seemingly looking to cast a middle-aged actor as his DCU’s Batman. However, the Guardians of the Galaxy director has since come out to publicly refute all such claims.

James Gunn dismissed this Batman casting theory by reposting the report on X (formerly Twitter) and terming it as “Bulls***” in the caption. He then shared the same post on his Instagram stories, further highlighting the fallacy in the rumor. Gunn added, “Sometimes the rumor folks get information wrong – but other times they seem to just make stuff up for clicks out of whole cloth. This is one of the latter.”

MyTimeToShineHello retaliated to Gunn’s comments via X by implying that multiple DCU rumors were discredited in the past, only for them to turn out to be true later. He wrote, “Remember when the Superman suit and Ultraman were ‘debunked.’ Let’s just wait and see.”

Nevertheless, no official updates seem to corroborate the internet scooper’s hypothesis at the moment.

Fans expect the Dark Knight to make his debut in James Gunn’s DCU in the upcoming Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie. However, the DC Studios executives have yet to share any update on the progress of the project.
