Benedict Wong Hopes to Fight Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday

Despite its recent hiccups, the MCU is now gearing to roar back into form with its upcoming Avengers projects. Scheduled to premiere seven years after its predecessor, the next Avengers movie will effectively introduce fans to a revamped roster of their favorite superhero team. Moreover, the film will announce the MCU return of Robert Downey Jr., who is set to portray Doctor Doom. In a recent discussion, Benedict Wong shared his thoughts on facing the fantastical supervillain in Avengers: Doomsday.

The Marco Polo star revealed that he is keen to face Victor Von Doom’s wrath in the much-awaited Avengers sequel.

Benedict Wong expressed his eagerness to battle the new big bad of Avengers: Doomsday during a conversation with Comic Book Movie’s Josh Wilding. He was promoting his forthcoming project, Bad Genius when the question about his involvement in Avengers 5 popped up.

“Hey, well, look, I’m all for it. I’m ready!” said the actor. “With Wong, he’s been promoted to Sorcerer Supreme so it’s all in the hands of the Marvel Universe to see where we go with it. Yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”

Wong’s character, who interestingly shares his namesake, was named the Sorcerer Supreme following the events of Avengers: Infinity War. He deservedly replaced Dr. Stephen Strange after the latter was unexpectedly killed in Avengers 3. Despite Strange’s subsequent return, Wong held on to his newfound role and is expected to retain it in Avengers: Doomsday.

Another future MCU project that should feature Benedict Wong is the unconfirmed Doctor Strange 3. There are little to no updates regarding the threequel at the time of writing. According to recent reports, Sam Raimi is currently in contention to helm the third movie too. Nevertheless, the project has not received official confirmation from Marvel Studios.

Avengers: Doomsday is presently scheduled to hit the big screens in May 2026.
