Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield could appear in the untitled MCU Spider-Man 4 movie, per a new rumor. Maguire played the web-slinging superhero in three movies helmed by Sam Raimi, while Garfield portrayed another iteration of the character in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). The two actors reprised their respective roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where they shared the screen with Tom Holland, who previously essayed the role of MCU’s Peter Parker / Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus recently had a Q&A with the members of the site’s Discord. There, he said that he had “heard” that there was ” a very strong possibility” that Maguire and Garfield’s versions could appear in the movie in an “extended role” due to the multiversal aspect of the setting.
Raimi’s first Spider-Man movie came out in 2002, followed by Spider-Man 2 in 2004, and Spider-Man 3 in 2007. There were plans for a fourth movie, but they were ultimately canceled. After the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, there were speculations about a fourth Spider-Man movie with Maguire. However, Raimi told Screen Rant that he had no plans “to make Spider-Man 4.” Similarly, plans for a third Amazing Spider-Man movie with Garfield and spin-offs were ultimately discarded,
Additionally, conversations about a fourth Spider-Man movie featuring Holland have been seemingly around since 2019. It was reported in September 2024 that Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed MCU’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was in early talks to direct the movie.
In the above-mentioned Q&A, Perez additionally claimed that Holland’s version could get the symbiote suit within “the next few years.” He might use it in the next couple of Spider-Man movies. Previously, Perez spoke about Tom Hardy’s Venom and Knull’s potential appearance in Spider-Man 4. This time around, he claimed that we would see more Symbiotes in the movie.
