Superman & Lois Season 4 Finale to Honor The CW’s Arrowverse Despite Separate Setting

Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing has shared insights about how the Season 4 finale will pay tribute to the Arrowverse. Helbing discussed the ending of the show and its connection to the larger CW superhero universe. He revealed that although Superman & Lois operates outside the Arrowverse, the final episode will still honor its legacy while standing as a separate entity.

Superman & Lois Season 4 will ‘honor’ the Arrowverse, but without major cameos

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Todd Helbing that the Superman & Lois Season 4 finale will “honor” the end of the Arrowverse. This comes despite the show’s separation from the shared TV universe. “I’ve had 10 years of working in these shows and these worlds, and you want to do it justice,” Helbing said. He acknowledged his long-standing connection to the Arrowverse.

Although Superman & Lois clarified in its second season that it no longer takes place in the Arrowverse, Helbing and fellow showrunner Brent Fletcher still felt a “responsibility” to recognize the legacy of the CW’s superhero universe. “The best way that we could approach it was to just do the best version for our show,” Helbing explained. However, constraints like schedules and budgets made significant cameos, such as The Flash’s Grant Gustin, unfeasible.

In the same interview, Tyler Hoechlin, who has portrayed Superman for eight years, noted that he briefly considered his time in the Arrowverse. However, Superman & Lois felt like a distinct project from the start. “When this was coming to an end, it was really just about this and its totality in the last four years,” Hoechlin remarked. “It was such a separate thing in so many ways.”

The Superman and Lois Season 4, beginning with a two-hour premiere, will conclude after eight episodes, marking the end of an era that began with Arrow 12 years ago. Despite its separation from the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois will still honor its legacy while delivering its own conclusive story.
