Agatha All Along Creator Explains Why [Spoiler] Dies Permanently

Jac Schaeffer, known for her role in developing WandaVision, has continued her work within the Marvel Television universe with the spinoff series Agatha All Along. The show centers on Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn, and explores new magical storylines within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, Schaeffer has provided insight into her creative decisions on the series, including the permanent death of Mrs. Hart (Sharon Davis), a character from WandaVision and Agatha All Along, portrayed by Debra Jo Rupp.

Jac Schaeffer reveals why Sharon Davis had to die in Agatha All Along

In Agatha All Along Episode 3, Mrs. Hart, aka Sharon Davis, dies during the coven’s first trial on the Witches’ Road. Mrs. Hart drank too much poisoned wine and, despite the antidote, could not be saved.

Schaeffer told Entertainment Weekly, “It was so important early on when we figured out we’re doing the Witches’ Road, we’re doing this coven, the hilarious idea that we would bring a normie along.”

She emphasized the importance of showing that the series has real consequences. “This show has teeth, and in the later episodes it goes to really dramatic places. It was important to signal that… people die in this show,” Schaeffer said, marking a shift in tone to balance humor with serious stakes.

She added, “We are theatrical, campy, broad, all the spectacle, all the fun, all the winking, all the meta, but that underneath it all, there is real grit to the story.” This death reinforces that no character is immune from danger in the series.

Schaeffer introduced non-magical characters, like Sharon Davis (Mrs. Hart), to contrast with the coven’s magical nature. Schaeffer highlighted that Agatha’s character embodies both flamboyance and danger, stating Agatha “can do all the flamboyance, but she’ll cut you.”

Agatha All Along features a cast that includes Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis or Mrs. Hart, Ali Ahn as Alice Wu-Gulliver, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, Joe Locke as Teen, and Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale. These actors portray the characters involved in the Witches’ Road storyline, central to the series’ plot.

New episodes premiere every Wednesday on Disney Plus.
