Marvel’s Frank Grillo was almost fired multiple times for ruining MCU surprises
Grillo, who appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and two other MCU films, admitted his difficulty in keeping secrets, which nearly cost him his role in the franchise. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Grillo stated, “Marvel almost fired me 36 f****** times because I don’t know. I never want to lie. And so, I do that a little too much.”
While discussing his new movie Long Gone Heroes and upcoming work in the DC Universe, Grillo expressed excitement about his role in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new franchise. He will voice Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, which debuts on Max in December 2024. Grillo will also appear in Peacemaker Season 2 and Superman.
Despite being cautious about revealing too much, Grillo noted that his past oversharing caused issues during his Marvel tenure. Grillo expressed enthusiasm for both Marvel and DC, saying he would be open to reprising his role as Crossbones if given the chance.
“I don’t know, at this point in my life, all the things that I thought were real and true, I’ve learned as a man who’s now matured, that if they ask me to do that, I would love to go back and do it. And I’m loving what I’m doing with DC,” he said.
Grillo emphasized his gratitude for the opportunities provided by James Gunn and Peter Safran and his willingness to return to Marvel if the right opportunity arises.
Frank Grillo’s Long Gone Heroes is currently playing in theaters.
