Why Agatha All Along’s Kathryn Hahn Gets Naked in Marvel Series

The much-awaited Agatha All Along series is finally out, with the first two episodes available on Disney Plus. The show follows the events of 2021’s WandaVision that left Kathryn Hahn’s titular witch in a magical limbo. In the first episode of the mystical miniseries, Agatha breaks free from her imprisonment, only to find herself completely naked in her living room. While the scene came as a shock to everyone, showrunner Jac Schaeffer insists that there is much depth behind this unexpected creative decision.

Jac Schaeffer explains Kathryn Hahn’s naked scene in Agatha All Along episode 1

As per Schaeffer, the sequence was added to signify the “peeling back of the layers of Agatha.”

In a recent interview with The GATE, the WandaVision creator gave detailed accounts of her experience with Agatha All Along. While talking about the rebirth of Hahn’s character, Schaeffer also touched upon her stripping down to multiple outfits. She did not particularly address Agatha’s much-discussed naked sequence but still managed to explain the psyche behind adding it to the show.

“That sequence in Episode 1 where she sort of strips down, it’s the peeling back of the layers of Agatha. And so to sort of externalize that and also have it be so fun because it’s all the looks you recognize from WandaVision, but that is very much what Katherine [Hahn] and I and Marvel wanted to do with the show is peel back the layers of Agatha”, Schaeffer explained. “In the pilot you see that physicalized and then over the course of the show, you…get that emotionally,” she added.

In a separate discussion with ExtraTV, Kathryn Hahn disclosed that it was her idea to have Agatha show up naked in episode one. “I pitched it. [laughs] I don’t know what that says about me. I thought if we’re going to start to get to the bottom of this person, let’s start with brass tacks,” Hahn added.

The first two episodes of the limited series are currently streaming on Disney Plus. The remaining seven episodes are scheduled to come out weekly, every Wednesday.
