Star Wars fans have had little to celebrate as of late, considering the underwhelming reception of recent projects. However, one aspect of the franchise that is still loved unanimously is Ewan McGregor’s take on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Having made his debut in George Lucas’ fantastical universe with the prequel films, the actor returned to his iconic role in 2022 with a small-screen series dedicated to the Jedi master. While updates regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 have been few and far between, McGregor still desires to continue with the story.
Ewan McGregor wishes for a ‘chance to do another’ Obi-Wan Kenobi story
In a recent interview, Ewan McGregor admitted that he would love to return to the Disney Plus show.
While talking to Variety, the Trainspotting star reinstated his passion for Star Wars and his wish to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. “I really do hope we get a chance to do another one,” he said. “Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”
McGregor also showered praise on Guinness’ portrayal of the character in the original Star Wars trilogy. “I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man,” he stated. “Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge — if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”
Despite Ewan McGregor’s enthusiasm to play Obi-Wan Kenobi, no official announcement has confirmed his return to Star Wars as of yet. Moreover, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 has yet to be greenlit by its showrunners.
At the time of writing, only two Star Wars shows have received a get-go on Disney Plus. One is the much-anticipated second season of Andor, which currently lacks an official release date. The other is an original series titled Skeleton Crew, which will come out on December 3, 2024.
