With Peacemaker Season 2 on the horizon, James Gunn has provided new insights into the show’s release schedule. As excitement builds, Gunn confirmed that the second season will debut after the highly anticipated Superman movie. This strategic decision highlights the interconnected narrative within the evolving DC Universe, setting the stage for Peacemaker’s return following Superman’s release.
James Gunn confirms Peacemaker Season 2’s release date is after Superman
Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere in late 2025, after the premiere of the new Superman movie in July. Despite filming being well underway, James Gunn confirmed on Threads that the season won’t air until 2025. He stated, “2025 after Superman.”
Superman will kick off the new DC Studios lineup, hitting theaters on July 11, 2025. Peacemaker Season 2, originally planned for an earlier release, has been strategically delayed to follow Superman. This aligns with DC Studios’ vision for cohesive storytelling and positions Peacemaker as a key element in the new DC Universe’s interconnected narrative.
Although plot details remain limited, John Cena will return as Peacemaker, alongside Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos. In addition, Sol Rodríguez, Tim Meadows, David Denman, and Frank Grillo will join the cast.
Season 1 ended with major plot developments, such as the team’s victory over the Butterflies and Adebayo’s exposure of her mother Amanda Waller’s corruption. Season 2 will continue from these events, with a few minor adjustments to the storyline.
The 2025 release allows Peacemaker Season 2 to fit smoothly into the DC Universe created by James Gunn and DC Studios. This timing ensures a cohesive story, as Peacemaker will follow Superman’s events in the new DCU lineup.
