Rumor: Star Wars to Launch Just 1 Disney+ Show Per Year From 2025

Fans might get to witness fewer Disney’s Star Wars series from 2025 onwards. New rumors that suggest that the output of these projects has been reduced. After numerous sources reported the cancelation of The Acolyte, this rumor sparked a wave of discussions online. Although these are still rumors, the idea of Disney producing fewer Star Wars shows is reminiscent of a statement by Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2023 about focusing more on quality. Hence, here is an overview of all the details regarding this rumor and the upcoming Star Wars shows.

Disney rumored to be reducing number of live-action Star Wars shows per year

According to a recent report, Disney is rumored to cut down on the production of multiple Star Wars shows in a year.

According to The Direct, since 2019, numerous Star Wars shows have released on the video streaming platform Disney Plus. The Acolyte was the recent Star Wars show that attracted a great viewership in its initial days. However, it fell short of achieving an outstanding rating from the critics.

Furthermore, the outlet reported that these alleged strategy changes were revealed by insider Daniel Richtman. He stated, ”I’m hearing that several series are in development, but it seems they plan to release only one live-action series per year starting in 2025.”

This update is still unconfirmed by Disney. Albeit, a 2023 interview of Bob Iger seems to be an early hint toward the reduction of Star Wars shows. As per the Direct, in that interview, Iger confirmed they will make fewer shows like Star Wars. He also stated it was part of a cost-cutting strategy.

Meeting the budget requirements for making these CGI-heavy Star Wars shows is a difficult task. This includes Andor, Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, The Acolyte, etc. Thus, the rumors of Disney’s alleged new strategy of releasing just one Star Wars show per year are sparking a buzz. Although, fans need to wait until any official confirmation arrives.
