Harrison Ford: It Took ‘Not Caring’ to Play Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World

Harrison Ford is known for giving very honest answers to questions about his movies, and the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World is no different.

Speaking to Variety during his appearance at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, Ford was asked what it was like to act out scenes as the Red Hulk in the upcoming Captain America film. Ford joked that it took a lot of “not caring” and that it meant he was “being an idiot for money.”

What did Harrison Ford say about his role in Captain America: Brave New World?

“What did it take? It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before,” said Ford.

Although Ford’s comments seem harsh, the legendary actor said he didn’t want to disparage the work and admitted he had a ton of fun doing it, even if it wasn’t what many would deem conventional.

“I don’t mean to disparage it,” said Ford. “I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do — or your acting coach, if you had one. But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got with the trailer.”

The upcoming Captain America: Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader. Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar also appear in the film.

“After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

Julius Onah directs the new MCU movie. Onah previously made 2015’s The Girl Is in Trouble, 2018’s The Cloverfield Paradox, and 2019’s Luce.

Captain America: Brave New World releases in United States theaters on February 14, 2025.
