SDCC 2024: McFarlane Toys Preview Night

As Comic-Con began, McFarlane Toys ran a press preview event to show a few new items to an anxiously awaiting public — and let Todd take selfies with everyone in attendance. A lot of recent and upcoming figures were on display, with a few new surprises.

Weapons Blazing…

Jonah Hex made a splash as DC Comics figures go, by being able to include toy guns for the figure. As far as McFarlane knows, and what we were able to garner at the event, guns may be doable if, and only if, the figure in question is sold not in the general toy section but a specially designated collectibles section or mail order area.

New figures for show included a new Red Hood and Cyborg figure, along with a black-and-white variant of the upcoming Adam West 7-inch Batman figure.

Spawn recently launched a new tie-in comic entitled “Rat City,” and the futuristic Spawn at the heart of it will, naturally, be seeing toy form. Of course there was a prototype on hand.

Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns continues to be a major influence on Todd McFarlane and every ’80s kid. A new deluxe figure of that Batman will include masked and unmasked heads, along with a street lamp.

McFarlane’s Sports Picks will expand to include mascots — you know Todd’s just dying to get the rights to Gritty:

UFC will join the sports lineup, too, in octagon-shaped packaging.

The static-posed Movie Maniacs will include a Blues Brothers two-pack. Meanwhile, even as Adam West’s Batman joins the larger line, the 6-inch TV figures will continue with a ’60s style Wonder Woman, masked and armed Joker, Batgirl, and Red Batman from TV and comics.

Also on display were some Spawn-Batman statues, Super Powers, and more DC figures and variants, most of which were previously announced. Check them all out in the gallery below, and see what you notice…
