The Witcher Season 4 Video Previews Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt

Netflix has revealed the first official look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher Season 4.

Shortly after Entertainment Weekly released the first image of Hemsworth’s Geralt, Netflix shared a 50-second video that built up to the reveal of the fan-favorite character’s new face. Hemsworth is stepping into the role of Geralt following Henry Cavill‘s departure from the series in October 2022.

Cavill — who is best known for playing Superman in the DC Extended Universe — previously portrayed Geralt of Rivia in the show’s first three seasons. Hemsworth will assume the role for Season 4, as well as the upcoming Season 5, which is set to conclude the series.

Check out the first look at The Witcher Season 4 below:

Production on Season 4 began in April 2024 at Longcross Studios in the UK. Season 5 is currently being written and will be filmed right after Season 4 wraps. The fourth and fifth seasons will cover the remaining three books of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels — Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.

“After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again,” reads the synopsis for The Witcher Season 4.

Netflix scraps final two Witcher spin-offs

Netflix originally had grand plans for The Witcher franchise, envisioning an expansive shared universe that encompassed everything from live-action and animation to movies and television. However, following the negative reception of the prequel series Blood Origin, as well as the mixed reception to the main show, Netflix has seemingly scrapped long-term plans for the franchise.

A recent report revealed that the streamer has opted not to move forward with two Witcher spin-offs — The Rats and an untitled kid’s series. While not much was revealed about the untitled kid’s series before its cancellation, The Rats would have been a prequel series about its eponymous characters, who were introduced in The Witcher Season 3 finale.

The final spin-off in The Witcher franchise will now be The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, starring Doug Cockle as Geralt. Set for release later this year, Sirens of the Deep is the second animated movie in the franchise after The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which premiered on the streamer in August 2021.

The first three seasons of The Witcher are currently streaming on Netflix. The Witcher Season 4 does not yet have a premiere date.
