Avatar: The Last Airbender Star Reveals Dream DCU Role

Avatar: The Last Airbender star Ian Ousley recently revealed which DC Comics superhero he would like to portray in James Gunn‘s DC Universe.

The actor revealed during the Avatar: The Last Airbender panel at the 2024 Fan Expo Philadelphia, which was moderated by Screen Rant, that he would love to play Beast Boy in live-action. “I am really a huge fan of Titans, so I would love to be Beast Boy, that’s like a dream role for me,” he shared. “So, maybe one day?!”

Introduced in Doom Patrol #99 (1965), Garfield Logan/Beast Boy is a young superhero with the power to shapeshift into any animal he chooses. Created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Bob Brown, Beast Boy has been a member of the Doom Patrol and the Teen Titans, although he is arguably more known for his inclusion in the latter.

The character has appeared in animated form in several cartoons, such as Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go!, and Young Justice. Ryan Potter portrayed the character in his live-action debut on the DC series, Titans, which ran for four seasons on DC Universe/HBO Max.

A Teen Titans movie is in the works at DC Studios

In March 2024, a live-action Teen Titans movie was reported to be in development at DC Studios. Ana Nogueira, who scripted the upcoming DC Universe movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is reportedly attached to pen the screenplay.

Despite Nogueira’s previous involvement in the DCU, it is not yet clear if Teen Titans will also be part of the shared universe or if it will be developed as a standalone movie that will be part of the DC Elseworlds banner.

Teen Titans is the sixth DC movie announced under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s tenure as heads of DC Studios. The duo is currently overseeing a film slate that includes Superman (which recently released a first look at David Corenswet suited up as the Man of Steel), The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, and The Batman Part II. The latter will be set in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe and released as a DC Elseworlds movie.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is streaming on Netflix.
