Stephen Lang Reveals How Quaritch Returns to the Avatar Sequels

Avatar: The Way of Water can’t let a good actor go. We recently learned that Sigourney Weaver will return as a teenage Na’vi in the sequel. Now actor Stephen Lang lets slip how the villainous Miles Quaritch comes back, in an interview with Empire. He’ll be feeling and looking blue too, as part of new wave of Avatars known as Recoms. Via the latest technologies, the RDA has created Avatar bodies with the memories of human soldiers — including Quaritch’s. Note that they have five fingers, like humans, rather than the Na’vi’s four. Note also that Weaver’s Kiri has five fingers, which may mean she comes from this program as well.

“He’s bigger, he’s bluer, he’s pissed off,” says Lang. “But there may possibly be an aspect of humility. When you take two Na’vi arrows in the chest, that’s gonna have some kind of effect on you…But now he is as lithe as they come. He can move with the same kind of cunning and feral quality that any of the Na’vi can.”

The RDA will return with more weapons than Recoms, including 3D-printing weapons factories, and a city that’s sucking up resources from Pandora’s oceans. But it’s hard to imagine Eywa will let that stand. We’ll find out in December.

What do you think of Quaritch’s return? Glad for more of the bad guy? Let us know in comments.
