Lucasfilm Confirms Jennifer Beals’ Role in The Book of Boba Fett

It’s been almost a full year since The Book of Boba Fett was announced during a post-credits stinger for The Mandalorian season 2. But in that timeframe, Lucasfilm has kept any casting announcements for the series to a minimum. That’s why Star Wars fans had very little to speculate on until the first trailer for the spinoff dropped earlier today. However, a few eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed something vaguely familiar about one of the Twi’lek women who show up more than halfway through the trailer. And it turns out their insight serves them well. According to Deadline, that’s none other than Jennifer Beals under all of that prosthetic makeup.

Unsurprisingly, Deadline’s sources wouldn’t reveal any details about Beals’ character on the series. But given her star power, we can probably expect her to have plenty of screen time. Beals joins a cast headlined by Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen, both of whom are reprising their Mandalorian roles as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, respectively.

Beals is widely remembered for her breakthrough role in Flashdance, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 1983. She also recently appeared as a series regular on DC Universe’s short-lived Swamp Thing series as Sheriff Lucilia Cable. Beals currently stars on Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q, reprising the role she played on the original L Word.

Picking up where The Mandalorian season 2 left off, The Book of Boba Fett begins a new chapter in Boba’s life. Boba and Fennec have taken over Jabba the Hutt’s criminal empire. Unfortunately for them, they may soon face other challengers for the throne.

The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on Disney+ on December 29.
