The Flash Showrunner Teases Different Look for Despero in Season 8

The Flash season 8 debuts a little more than a month from now, and it will bring a substantial five-episode storyline with it. Earlier this year, The CW cast Doctor Who and Daredevil alum Tony Curran as Despero. Now, it appears that the character created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky will test the titular superhero’s will at the beginning of the latest season in what will be a sort of crossover called ‘Armageddon,’ featuring the most prominent superheroes in the Arrowverse. However, it seems that fans will be disappointed if they expect a literal adaptation from the comics.

“I think the audience is going to learn something new about Despero that they never knew, because we do have our own take on the [DC] mythology for the character,” said The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace while talking with EW.

The first look at the live-action adaptation of the alien from Kalanor reveals a more human-like appearance than before. Unlike in the comics, he doesn’t have his well-known third eye nor a bulking physique. However, this might just be a way to deceive fans before the big surprise.

“I think the audience is going to flip out when they see how dynamic, exciting, and unpredictable Tony is in bringing this particular version of Despero to life,” Wallace added. “This is not exactly the Despero that you might know from the comics, or the Justice League cartoon. This is our own version that Tony is really bringing something unique to it that I think is going to help make him the definitive Despero.”

The Flash season 8 will premiere on The CW on November 16.
