It’s been nearly a year since viewers caught up with the Hargreeves clan on The Umbrella Academy. However, Netflix has just brought us one step closer to the series’ return. The last time we saw the Hargreeves family, they had just time-traveled from the ‘60s back to the present day. Unfortunately, the reality they found upon returning to their ancestral mansion wasn’t the one they remembered. Not only are their father and long-dead brother, Ben, alive and well, they also lead a new team of heroes known as The Sparrow Academy. Presumably, the new season will show the Hargreeves clashing with their doppelgängers as they attempt to set the timeline back to normal.

Earlier this year, Netflix announced that Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David had all joined the series as members of The Sparrow Academy. Production on the new season finally began in February, with Steve Blackman returning as showrunner. When announcing the episode titles, Blackman (via TVLine) also offered some hints about what they mean. Apparently, “Marigold” holds “special meaning” for fans of the original Umbrella Academy comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. Similarly “Oblivion” is “ominous” and “terrifying” as well. That title almost certainly refers to Hotel Oblivion, which comic fans will recognize as the interdimensional prison built to house the Umbrella Academy’s deadliest enemies.
Netflix still hasn’t announced a premiere date for The Umbrella Academy season 3.
