Freddie Stroma Will Replace Chris Conrad in HBO Max’s Peacemaker

James Gunn’s Peacemaker series has been shooting for four months. But if Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead taught us anything, it’s that it’s never too late to make changes to your supporting cast. Deadline brings word Chris Conrad is vacating his role Adrian Chase/Vigilante in Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad spinoff series. The character will instead be played by Freddie Stroma.

Deadline’s sources claim that “creative differences” are the reason for Conrad’s exit. Regardless, he and Gunn are reportedly parting ways on friendly terms. In the comics, Adrian Chase was a New York City district attorney who adopted his own costumed persona after mobsters killed his wife and children. He has deadly hand-to-hand combat skills, marksmanship, and mastery with a lariat. Vigilante also possesses an accelerated healing factor that helps him recover from severe gunshot wounds or stabbings.

Stroma currently stars on The Crew, which premiered on Netflix back in February. He previously headlined the short-lived ABC series Time After Time, and also guest-starred in three episodes of Bridgerton late last year. Some of Stroma’s big screen credits include the original Pitch Perfect as well as the last three Harry Potter films.

John Cena is headlining Peacemaker as his character from The Suicide Squad, which hits theaters and HBO Max in August. The series also has Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland reprising their roles as John Economos and Emilia Harcourt. Other cast members include Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Chukwudi Iwuji, Nhut Le, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Christopher Heyerdahl, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, and Rizwan Manji.

Peacemaker will premiere its eight-episode first season on HBO Max in early 2022.
