Zack Snyder Says His Justice League Will Feature Zero Studio Compromises

Zack Snyder Rules Out the Possibility of a Justice League Sequel

Now that Zack Snyder is putting the finishing touches on his original vision for Justice League, there’s been renewed interest in his DC work (or the “Snyderverse,” as some fans have taken to calling it). Naturally, this has a few fans wondering if this will actually be his final visit to the DC Universe. But according to the man himself, we shouldn’t get our hopes up for a sequel of any kind.

Warner Bros. originally planned to release two Justice League films, both of which had Snyder sitting in the director’s chair. But after Snyder’s departure from the first film and the movie’s eventual box office failings, the franchise’s future became unclear. During a recent appearance on the ComicBook Debate podcast (via CBR), Snyder addressed whether he’d be interested in helming another DC movie after his four-hour Justice League cut hits HBO Max later this year, and it sounds like he’s happy to leave things where they are.

“Look, I never thought I’d be here doing this,” said Snyder. “I didn’t think I’d be finishing Justice League. “The truth is, and it’s been widely reported, and I have no issue, this is an old movie. This is a years-old movie I’m working on. The DC universe has gone and branched off and done its own thing and that’s fine.”

“As far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to do with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it’s well known that I planned on more movies, five movies or something,” continued Snyder. “But I’m busy. I’ve got a lot going on. Is it cool that the fans have so much faith in the trajectory? Yes, it’s amazing. And I couldn’t be happier and I’m excited for them to see Justice League so they can really drink the entire elixir of Justice League. But, would I continue? I have no plan to. But as I said, I didn’t think I’d be here, so who knows?”

Snyder’s comments come roughly one week after #RestoreTheSnyderVerse began trending on Twitter. It’s no secret that Snyder’s previous superhero movies didn’t fare particularly well with critics. Regardless, there’s still a legion of fans who would love to see more DC films made with Snyder’s touch. Even Ray Fisher chimed in with his own endorsement for Snyder’s full-fledged return to the DCEU. But since Fisher is unwilling to reprise his Justice League role as long as Walter Hamada is heading up DC Films, it doesn’t seem likely that Cyborg would come along for the ride.
