A new passenger will ride in the TARDIS in 2021, as John Bishop has joined the cast of Doctor Who Season 13. The recent Doctor Who: Revolution of Daleks holiday special featured a post-credit scene that introduced the new companion in the Doctor’s universe(s). The 54-year old English comedian will help Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor in the forthcoming adventures. Bishop will portray a character named Dan, whose background is still shrouded in mystery.
“If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it,” Bishop said in a press release. “It’s an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip.”
Bishop has already begun filming for his new role. He will make his first official appearance when Doctor Who Season 13 debuts later in 2021. In the meantime, you can watch the Doctor Who: Revolution of Daleks post-credit scene here below.

Aboard the TARDIS, he will also meet Mandip Gill’s Yaz, the only companion of the Doctor’s remaining after Ryan and Graham chose to resume their lives on Earth.
“It’s time for the next chapter of Doctor Who, and it starts with a man called Dan,” Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall added. “Oh, we’ve had to keep this one secret for a long, long time. Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS.”
BBC has yet to announce an official release date for Doctor Who Season 13.
